Crystal Hall will be host to one of the most popular team sports in Azerbaijan, Volleyball. The 10 day’s of action will see athletes from different nations competing for the gold medal in the men’s and women’s tournament. There’s much more to Volleyball than just a bump, set and spike, with athletes diving to keep the play alive and soaring above the net to score points against their opponents. In 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in the United States, invented a new game that combined elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball.

This game is now known across the globe as Volleyball, but was called ‘mintonette’ back then. Today, Volleyball is one of the most popular and dynamic sports in the world and European teams are some of the strongest, with four of the top five finishers at the 2014 Men’s World Championships hailing from the continent.
