Nazim Babayev was born in Baku on October 8, 1997. He is currently a second year student at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sports.
Nazim Babayev's first success was in 2012. He took the third place, winning a bronze medal at Yılmaz Sazak Memorialı competition held in Turkey. In 2013 he won a gold medal, achieving a distance of 15.53m, at the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival held in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
In 2015 he competed at the First European Games in Baku, succeeding with a distance of 16.38m, and won gold. In the same year he competed at another significant event, the European Youth Championship in Sweden, his distance, 17.04m. He won a gold medal and was licensed to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympics, achieving a world record.
