10 April 2017

Baku 2017 Journey from the Caspian visited Astara yesterday. This tour will cover 15 regions of Azerbaijan and bring the spirit of sporting celebration along with solidarity and joy to the people of Azerbaijan.

The first event dedicated to this remarkable occasion took place at famous Yanar spring in Astara region's Archivan village yesterday morning. Yanar spring is a perfect embodiment of two elements - fire and water. Water from this boiling spring has high methane concentration. During the Water Ceremony young chess player and mathematics enthusiast Mirrahil Aghayev, bronze medalist of freestyle wrestling world championship Aliabbas Rzazadeh and honoured sport master of Azerbaijan in freestyle wrestling Maharram Aghayev filled water vessel with the water from Yanar spring.  Then the water vessel was presented at the evening Water Festival. It worth noting, that the vessel which started its journey from Baku will be a part of the Opening Ceremony at Baku Olympic Stadium on May 12.

Then in the morning, Sport Joys - Regional Sport Event, a marvellous event, took place in Astara Olympic Sports Complex within Domestic Grassroots program. The contest among schoolchildren organized to promote Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games and encourage youth interest in sports gave the contestants unforgettable entertainment and bright experience.

The ceremony was followed with the evening Water Festival at the Boulevard Park.  The event was free and local visitors enjoyed performances of Mirvari dance group, "Avasor" traditional music team, Rovshan Jabbarov and remarkable water effects and fireworks.

Also the event included footage of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev presenting the vessel with the Caspian sea water to Astara resident at the opening ceremony of the Journey from the Caspian held on April 5.
